It's been a wild ride
It’s been a wild ride
Our Story
Horotiu Homestead was never just a business.
It was born from a journey — and a deep calling to come home.
For 17 years, our whānau lived in Australia. We built a life there — worked hard, created opportunities, and on the surface, we had everything we had worked for.
But deep within us… something was missing.
A depth we couldn’t replace.
A connection we couldn’t replicate.
Our connection to our whenua.
Our connection to our people.
Our connection to the ones we love.
Because no matter how far we went, Aotearoa was always home — not just a place, but a part of who we are.
As parents to 11 children, we carried a responsibility — to ensure our tamariki didn’t just know where they came from, but truly felt it.
Because there is something special about being home — it shapes identity.
It’s not something you visit on holidays… it’s something you live and breathe.
So we came home.
Horotiu Homestead is set across expansive semi-rural grounds, designed to host large groups with ease, comfort, and connection.
Whether you’re gathering for a special occasion or simply bringing your people together, the Homestead offers a space that feels both open and grounded — where connection comes naturally.
For those seeking a more elevated experience, exclusive access to the full Homestead — including both homes and the wider grounds — is available through our premium, full-estate bookings.
This is a space for:
A place where:
This isn’t just accommodation.
It’s a place built from lived experience.
From challenge.
From resilience.
From love for our people.
When you come here, you’re not just booking a space —
you’re stepping into something created with purpose.
Stay. Gather. Celebrate. Create.
“He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.”
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
The Reality We Faced
What we didn’t expect… was how hard it would be to simply find a place for our whānau.
A family of 13.
Working. Providing. Doing everything right.
Yet there was nowhere for us.
We weren’t eligible for support.
We weren’t considered “priority.”
We were, in many ways, invisible in the system.
And for a moment — we faced the reality of having nowhere to go.
Until our marae opened its doors.
That moment stayed with us.
Because when everything else fell away — it was whānau, culture, and community that held us.
With determination and a vision for something better, we built our first home on our land.
Not small.
Not temporary.
But intentionally created to hold our whānau — with space, warmth, and connection at its centre.
It was built for us…
but it was built with something bigger in mind.
When we later built our second home, something shifted.
The thought came strong and clear:
“How could we not share this?”
Because what we had created wasn’t just a home —
it was a space where people could come together.
We know what it feels like:
To need space for your people.
To gather, celebrate, reconnect.
To simply be together.
And we saw something missing.
Outside of marae, there were very few places where large groups and whānau could stay together — comfortably, privately, and in a way that truly honours connection.
So we created a space that does exactly that.
